Overview
The TimeLine Reporting Option extends TimeLine‘s performance monitoring by summarizing data gathered from database process snapshots taken periodically during monitoring.
Major benefits include:
- Analyze process snapshot data over relatively long periods of time
- Group and rank top applications, users, SQL and more
- Rank items by user-defined criteria including CPU time, logical/physical I/Os and more
Features
The TimeLine Reporting Option enables you to analyze how users and applications are using your database server, and to spot trends at a high level related to how database objects and SQL statements are performing.
Reports provided by the TimeLine Reporting Option include:
- TimeLine Top-N Applications
- TimeLine Top-N Users
- TimeLine Top-N Host Names
- TimeLine Top-N Client Addresses
- TimeLine Top-N Stored Procedures
- TimeLine Top-N Transaction Names
- TimeLine Top-N SQL Texts
- TimeLine Top-N SQL Queries
Each of these reports lets you group the Top-N items by various criteria–for example, CPU Time, Blocking Time or Logical/Physical I/Os.
For each of the Top-N items included in the report, the report lists statistics gathered by the database process snapshots for that item — for example, the total I/O counts and CPU usage, the peak amount of memory used in the database server, and more.
Technology
The TimeLine Reporting Option uses process snapshot data gathered by TimeLine as a result of timed snapshots and triggered alerts. It then aggregates this data by application, user, SQL statement and other criteria in order to produce reports.
Database Support
The TimeLine Reporting Option supports the following database platforms and versions:
- Sybase ASE 12.5.0.3 through 16.0
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 through 2022
